Research and Issues of Impact on the Lives of Indigenous Women

Our commitment is to carry out participatory research processes that allow us to dig deeper in issues that have an impact on the lives of indigenous women from their own perspectives, giving visibility to the problems they face and producing support tools for advocacy at the local, national and international levels.

Our commitment is to carry out participatory research processes that allow us to dig deeper in issues that have an impact on the lives of indigenous women from their own perspectives, giving visibility to the problems they face and producing support tools for advocacy at the local, national and international levels.

Generating knowledge is a great priority in our work. We start by reflecting on the conceptualization of issues from the perspective of indigenous women, describing their recurring manifestations by taking into account the different aspects of identity, identifying best practices and formulating guidelines for actions for the prevention and elimination of violence.

Since 2010, we have been building the Indigenous Women’s Observatory against Violence, an initiative launched by indigenous women as a mechanism to monitor and shed light on the situation of violence, in all its manifestations and levels, promoting compliance with the international commitments on human rights.

Responding to the lack of data and information on the situation of violence against indigenous women, the Observatory promotes the implementation of research processes with a participatory and interactive methodology for the preparation of studies, diagnoses and documentation of cases at the local level.

For the redaction of the studies, we have developed an Intercultural Research Manual as well as training courses aimed at sharing strategies and skills with those indigenous women’s organizations that lead the entire research process at the local level.
